A recent visit by the Parliamentary Committee on Estimates to the Sunmaster Agrivoltaics Plant in Delhi aimed to assess the implementation of two key initiatives: PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The visit focused on agrivoltaics technology, which allows for simultaneous solar energy generation and agricultural cultivation, enhancing land productivity and farmers’ incomes. The committee was briefed on the objectives and impacts of the PM-KUSUM scheme and participated in a comparative analysis of ground-mounted solar systems versus stilt-based agrivoltaic models. They also interacted with local farmers, gained insights into the benefits of solar energy for rural livelihoods, and took part in a tree plantation drive as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative. The visit highlighted the government’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions that promote inclusive rural development and sustainability. The committee’s recommendations include further studies to explore the scalability and benefits of agrivoltaics for farmers across rural India.
