Invinity Energy Systems has announced that 9 UK developers have chosen its vanadium flow batteries for their Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Cap & Floor bids. This highlights the value of the Cap & Floor scheme, which provides revenue certainty for developers and manufacturers. The scheme is unlocking market confidence and investment in non-lithium energy storage technologies, such as flow batteries. The UK’s Cap & Floor mechanism is supporting grid resilience, clean energy integration, and job creation. Flow Batteries Europe (FBE) is urging EU policymakers to introduce a similar revenue model to support the development of a sovereign LDES industry. The UK’s scheme has already helped to reduce curtailment costs, which totaled £402 million from 2020-2021. Invinity’s CEO, Jonathan Marren, expressed delight at the positive feedback from partners, with significant quantities of their UK-made vanadium flow batteries being proposed for the scheme. Successful bids will help lower energy costs for consumers and provide economic benefits across the UK.
