INEOS Styrolution has launched a 100% bio-attributed polystyrene, Styrolution PS 158K BC100, for food packaging, reducing carbon emissions by 172% compared to traditional polystyrene. This sustainable material is produced using a certified mass balance approach, complying with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system. It meets stringent global food safety and contact standards, including the Japanese Food Sanitation Act and A-level certification from the Japan Chemical Innovation and Inspection Institute (JCII). The bio-attributed polystyrene retains the high-performance characteristics of conventional polystyrene, providing excellent heat resistance and optical clarity. It is already being used in food trays in the Japanese retail market, marking a significant milestone in sustainable packaging. INEOS Styrolution’s Vice President, Marcela Villegas, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable solutions, empowering businesses to transition towards environmentally responsible practices without compromising quality or safety. This launch underscores the company’s broader commitment to reducing environmental footprints and offering innovative, low-carbon alternatives that meet industry standards.
