The Wilson family, living in a three-bedroom home on Vancouver Island, has seen a significant improvement in their quality of life after installing an electric heat pump. The heat pump has replaced their portable air conditioners and has provided even, less-dry heat and cooling, eliminating “cold and hot spots” and condensation on the windows. Sarah Wilson, the mother, says the heat pump has “changed our lives” and improved their sleep and relationships. She notes that the energy use has remained almost identical to the previous summer, despite using the heat pump for cooling, indicating its efficiency.

The family took advantage of BC Hydro’s rebates, which can be up to $4,000, and worked with a certified heat pump installer who was skilled and friendly. The contractor helped with the rebate application process, making it easy and straightforward. The Wilsons are happy with the result and appreciate the improved air circulation and temperature control in their home. BC Hydro offers rebates for heat pumps in apartments and condos, and low-income households may be eligible for additional rebates through CleanBC’s energy savings program.
