The Yukon’s affordable heat pump program, which offered rebates for homeowners to switch from oil to heat pumps, ran out of its original $2.4 million in funding within three weeks. However, the federal government has announced additional funding, tripling the program’s scope. The new combined funding of $8.8 million will make it possible for more homeowners to switch to energy-efficient heat pumps. The program, available to low-to-median income households, offers rebates of up to $24,000 for high-efficiency heat pumps and $250 for those switching from oil heat. The goal is to install 1,300 “smart electric heating systems” in Yukon homes by 2030. The expanded program aims to support sustainable living, promote cost-effective and environmentally friendly home heating, and benefit local installers and businesses. After funding runs dry, a new influx of funds becomes available for Yukon’s heat pump rebate program.
