The Government of Assam has introduced the Assam Solar Power Promotion Policy 2025, aiming to develop 3,500 MW of solar capacity by 2030. The policy, effective until March 31, 2030, aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and position Assam as a regional energy hub. The policy covers grid-connected solar power plants, rooftop solar installations, and battery energy storage systems. The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) will implement the policy, and the state government will hold up to 27% equity in projects. The policy offers financial incentives, including waivers on transmission, distribution, and electricity duty charges, to promote solar adoption. It also promotes agri-voltaic systems, allowing farmers to install solar panels while continuing farming activities. A Project Monitoring Committee will oversee implementation, and the state will conduct policy reviews every two years. The policy aims to attract investment, foster innovation, and accelerate Assam’s transition to a low-carbon future, with a target of achieving reliable, affordable, and clean energy supply.
