Armstrong International has begun construction on a new high-temperature industrial heat pump production facility in Herstal, Belgium. The expansion project, which includes a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade, aims to double production capacity and produce up to 50MW of industrial high-temperature heat pumps. The new facility, expected to be operational by 2027, is a result of Armstrong’s joint venture with Combitherm and will manufacture heat pumps capable of generating superheated water or low-pressure steam up to 120°C. The heat pumps will also reuse process waste heat, reducing primary energy needs by up to 70%. The project has received a €4.7m grant from the European Commission and is part of Armstrong’s broader program to increase production of industrial high-temperature heat pumps globally. The expansion will help meet the growing demand for decarbonizing industrial heat in Europe and support industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. According to Armstrong’s CEO, the Herstal facility will complement the company’s expanding manufacturing capabilities in the US, India, China, and Mexico.
