In Koppal district, farmers are embracing artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance their agricultural practices. Automated weather forecasting units are being installed on farms to provide farmers with precise data on weather conditions, such as humidity, temperature, and rainfall. The technology sends this information directly to farmers’ mobile phones, enabling them to make informed decisions about their crops. The Horticulture Department offers financial assistance to farmers adopting these units, which are powered by solar energy and cost approximately ₹40,000, with a subsidy of ₹20,000. Over 10 farmers in the district have benefited from this scheme. The technology helps farmers manage their crops, preventing damage from unpredictable weather patterns. Suresh Sajjjan, a farmer, noted that the unit has helped him monitor and manage pest attacks, diseases, and water usage more efficiently. The Deputy Director of the Horticulture Department, Krishna Ukkund, highlighted the benefits of the technology, including accurate weather predictions, alerts for disease control, and efficient water management. The integration of AI and automated weather forecasting units is expected to enhance crop yields, ensure a more sustainable future for agriculture, and increase productivity and profitability for farmers.
