John Deere has launched its next-generation perception system, an autonomy precision upgrade kit for select tractor models, allowing for autonomous tillage work. The kit is available for model year 2022 and newer 9R and 9RX tractors, as well as model year 2020.5 and newer 8R and 8RX tractors. Select 2025 John Deere tractors will come with autonomy capabilities from the factory. The system features 16 cameras mounted on the tractor cab roof, providing a 360-degree view. It also includes additional lighting, a StarFire receiver mast, and harnessing for tillage implements. To aid in the transition, John Deere has integrated its autonomy solution with existing precision ag technologies, such as AutoPath and AutoTrac Turn Automation. This allows farmers to extend their workday without adding extra hours, increasing productivity. According to John Deere, customer feedback has praised the value of autonomy, allowing farmers to complete their work in a shorter operating window.
