Diehl Aviation has received the Crystal Cabin Award in the Sustainable Cabin category for its Eco Bin concept, a composite overhead stowage compartment that prioritizes sustainability and efficiency. The Eco Bin uses two primary materials, fiber-reinforced thermoplastics and metal, eliminating the need for glue or adhesives. This design simplifies dismantling and recycling, allowing the structure to be shredded, melted down, and repurposed into other aircraft parts. The production process reduces waste by two-thirds and is energy-efficient, accelerating production compared to traditional methods. The Eco Bin meets fire, smoke, and toxicity regulations, ensuring high safety standards. Diehl Aviation plans to industrialize the Eco Bin in 2026, helping airlines reduce their environmental footprint and improve efficiency and circularity in aircraft interiors. The Eco Bin is a sustainable solution that redefines environmental responsibility in aircraft design.
