Sarawak is accelerating its efforts to become a net food exporter through the integration of smart farming and Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The Sungai Sebiew Precision Farming Park, a 13-hectare site, will serve as a model for sustainable and technology-driven agriculture in the state. Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom emphasized that the focus will be on high-quality production using modern precision farming methods. The park will feature IoT-enabled greenhouses, a nursery, and a command center to monitor and manage farm operations. The project aims to attract youth to agriculture by making it more digital and less labor-intensive. Dr Rundi highlighted the potential for Sarawak to become a hub for net food exports, citing Taiwan as an inspiring model. The project is expected to become a catalyst for future smart agriculture developments in Sarawak, with the goal of reducing the state’s food import-export deficit and generating better revenue.
Dr Rundi: Embracing technology and boosting exports are key to unlocking Sarawak’s agricultural potential.
