Eclipse Ingredients, a Brisbane-based biotech startup, has emerged from stealth mode with $7 million in funding to commercialize lactoferrin, a promising compound found in human breast milk and immune cells. The company uses precision fermentation to sustainably produce human-identical lactoferrin at an industrial scale. Founded by dietitian Siobhan Coster, Eclipse Ingredients aims to disrupt the global wellness and skincare markets with its breakthrough. The startup has received $2.9 million in funding from the Commonwealth Government’s Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) and investment from AgFunder. With its capital-efficient model, Eclipse Ingredients plans to launch its first commercial product in 2027, starting with skincare applications. The company is also exploring commercial partnerships and has identified a pipeline of other health-beneficial ingredients to focus on next. Lactoferrin has numerous health benefits, including anti-inflammation, anti-microbial, and iron-boosting properties, making it a highly sought-after compound.
