Allegro Energy, a Newcastle-based clean-tech company, has received $1.85 million in funding from the Australian federal government to help bring its redox flow battery technology to mass production. The company’s water-based redox flow batteries are non-flammable, fully recyclable, and don’t rely on scarce materials or complex supply chains. This technology has overcome the voltage limitations of traditional water-based solutions, making it suitable for large-scale, long-duration energy storage. The funding will enable Allegro to scale up production at its NSW plant, reducing unit costs and refining its battery energy storage systems. The company’s CEO, Thomas Nann, believes the technology can play a key role in maintaining the security and reliability of Australia’s energy system as more renewables are brought online. The funding announcement comes after Allegro completed a 38 kW solar installation project at its Newcastle headquarters, which will help power its operations and demonstrate the company’s commitment to sustainability.
