Paul Nugent has been named the Whitney and Elizabeth MacMillan Endowed Chair in Precision Agriculture at Michigan State University (MSU) and joined the faculty in 2022. The endowed chair was made possible by a $10 million gift to MSU, with $5 million designated for the chair. The gift also supported 4-H youth development programs through MSU Extension and a scholarship fund for students in the Dan Scott Ranch Management Program. The precision agriculture program, which Nugent is part of, was launched with new faculty, courses, and an eventual minor. The program is an interdisciplinary effort that combines agricultural sciences, technology, and engineering to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability. Nugent’s appointment marks a significant step forward for the program and reflects MSU’s commitment to innovative agricultural research and education.
