Aldi has applied to South Ayrshire Council to install four air source heat pumps (ASHPs) at its Prestwick store on Ayr Road. The ASHPs will provide a low-carbon and energy-efficient alternative to traditional boilers. The application is part of Aldi’s efforts to improve the sustainability of its operations and reduce its carbon footprint. The store, which has been operating for over 16 years, is undergoing improvements to “future-proof” its operations and support business growth.
A noise impact assessment was conducted to assess the potential noise associated with the heat pumps. The assessment recommended installing a 2.5-meter high acoustic screen to mitigate noise and ensure that the equipment can operate 24 hours a day without disturbing nearby residents. The improvements are designed to reduce the store’s carbon footprint and ensure its long-term sustainability. The full plans can be viewed on South Ayrshire Council’s planning portal using reference 25/00493/APP. If approved, the installation of the heat pumps will help Aldi achieve its goal of reducing its environmental impact.
