Sumitomo Electric has launched a new vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) system, which offers up to 10 hours of storage and comes in three versions. The system boasts improved output and energy density thanks to component enhancements, resulting in reduced cost and physical footprint. The VRFB is designed for long-duration configurations, with a 30-year operational lifespan with proper maintenance. This makes it an attractive option for large-scale energy storage projects. The system’s decoupled energy capacity and power output also reduces wear and tear on components, contributing to its extended lifespan. The manufacturer highlights the advantages of VRFBs, including high recyclability and strong safety credentials.
