The Energize Thurston program is a countywide initiative that offers free workshops to help residents reduce their energy bills and household emissions by using energy-efficient heat pump technology. The program, led by Olympia, is a partnership between several municipalities and organizations. Dominic Jones, the Building Decarbonization Program Manager, announced the program at a city council meeting, citing the success of previous similar programs in Olympia. The program offers exclusive discounts on heat pumps and heat pump water heaters, vetted contractors, and connections to local and state incentives, potentially saving participants up to $5,000. Additionally, a limited number of free installations are available for low- and moderate-income households through partnership support and grants. To qualify, residents must attend a free workshop, which provides information on heat pump benefits, incentives, and program discounts. Workshop dates and locations are available on the energizethurston.org website. The program’s primary goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, with the estimated equivalent of eliminating 1,953.72 metric tons of CO2 over 15 years, equivalent to eliminating emissions from 456 gas-powered vehicles over one year.
