The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a drone-based crop protection program in six districts to boost farmers’ income and modernize agriculture. As part of a pilot project, drones are being used to spray nano urea and pesticides in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Bahraich, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur Nagar. The drones can spray up to 12 acres in an hour, increasing productivity and reducing labor and time. This initiative is part of the Atmanirbhar Krishak Samanvit Vikas Yojana and the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, aiming to modernize agriculture and provide economic benefits to farmers. Nine drone projects have been launched so far, and farmers are being trained to operate drones and adopt modern farming techniques. The use of drones allows for precise and timely monitoring of crop health and spraying of pesticides and nano urea. The state government plans to expand the initiative to more districts, further enhancing the technological backbone of agriculture in UP. This move is expected to increase farmers’ income and introduce efficient, science-backed methods in agriculture.
